Recently, I've noticed a lot of negative posts in the forums about
DreamHost's service quality. I'd like to say, that I have never had any
trouble whatsoever and that I'm very pleased with their service.
I've been hosted with at least six
different companies in the past, and DreamHost is by far the best. Their
servers are blazing fast, they offer tons of disk space and bandwidth, and
they don't try to cheat you like other companies.
Their support team is really good too.
I've contacted support several times, and I usually got a reply to my
question in under 2 hours. I always got a reply in under 12 hours. The
support is very helpful, too.
So far, my only complaint with DreamHost
has been that the control panel is a little confusing. It's extremely
powerful, but it is not as easy to use as cPanel. Otherwise, I heart
DreamHost. They are by far the best web hosting company I have ever used. I
will definately be a loyal customer for a long while.

I was previously a Dreamhost customer. After some of the network issues (and
my wife complaining that her business site was too slow using Zencart/MySQL),
I was swayed by the press out there on the internet that Dreamhost was
somehow a poor provider, since they had gotten too big. So I moved to
another provider, and I moved my wife's hosting too.
I however moved back recently (within 30
days), as I was shocked to see how limited their cPanel implementation was,
and how much I missed the shell access.
You see, I'm a network admin by trade,
and love me a little command line action once in a while. I also like the
effortless spamassassin configuration.
Honestly, it's a little (teensy?) bit
slower. But my site on Dreamhost is not mission critical. I can live with
the fact MySQL queries take a teensy bit more time than my old provider.
What I like is the flexibility Dreamhost affords me, and the great service
I've received. When switching back, my email support response time was very
quick (less than 1/2 hour in most cases) and since I was within the 30 days
of cancellation, all my settings were waiting for me when I returned.
So to all those on the fence, make your
decision to host with Dreamhost. They have lots of great features, good
support, and I'm happy to be back with them.

I have to relate my experience of DreamHost to date...
Less than 24 hours ago, my site was hosted by another server. I was spending
literally weeks trying to administer aspects of my site and compensate for
server shortcomings rather than spending that time developing and launching
my business as expected. Yesterday I became sufficiently frustrated to seek
alternatives, so acting on a friends advice, I came here and spent several
hours perusing the site, these forums and the wiki. I liked what I saw, so I
signed up.
My previous server let my email go 1st:
in less than an hour I had it back up, but on the DH servers. It took a
little longer for the FTP and the site itself to shift across (as you can
expect when making a DNS change) but all was in place this morning when I
awoke.
Since then I have uploaded 3 machines
onto my website: Mambo 4.6, SMF 1.1RC3 and Gallery 2.2 All of these machines
installed absolutely flawlessly on the DH servers and are all running (also
flawlessly!!! and without any hacks necessary!!!) as I type this -that alone
is something my previous server NEVER achieved!
All that remains for me now is to
configure and populate the machines, then I can get on with getting on!
DH thanks. You have given me in less than
24 hours, without any support intervention necessary, far more than my
previous server was able to give me in over 3 months.
If you are thinking of making a change,
my advice (obviously) is Go For It!!! The sooner the better.
Now, if only I can get these machines to
bridge properly...

I think the thing that initially drew me to DreamHost was the low price, at
the time I was looking for a cheap host without too many restrictions.
However, I have stayed at DreamHost
because I like the way things work around here. It is true that things have
not been perfect, but during the bad times DreamHost have done their best to
keep their customers informed and get things fixed as quickly as possible.
Downtime sucks, but it doesn't suck as much if you know steps are being
taken to rectify things.
Luckily, overall downtime for my sites
has been minor since I started hosting here, except for that dreadful period
a month or so ago, when everything just seemed to fall apart.
